The metropolitan county of Tyne and Weir, more commonly known as Tyneside is located in the North East region of England. Tyne and Weir shares borders with the counties of Northumberland and County Durham as well as the North Sea.

The two largest towns within the Tyneside region of Tyne and Weir include Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland. Other major towns within the county include Felling, Gateshead, Gosforth, Houghton le Spring, Jarrow, Longbenton, Newburn, North Shields, South Shields, Wallsend, Washington and Whitley Bay.

Tyne and Weir is divided up into five metropolitan boroughs which consist of Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
