The county of Northamptonshire is situated in the east-midlands region of England and is entirely landlocked. The county town is Northampton which at the last Census in 2001 had a population of approximately 190,000 people. Northamptonshire shares boundaries with Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The border with Lincolnshire is the shortest county boundary in England at just 19 metres long.
Aside from Northampton, other main towns in Northamptonshire are: Ashington; Blyth; Cramlington; Beeston and Stapleford; Corby; Daventry; Kettering; Rushden and Wellingborough.
