The county of Lancashire is situated in the north-west region of England and borders the Irish Sea to the west and the counties of Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. The county now longer includes the areas Merseyside and Manchester which were removed from the county and now are the metropolitan counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
The largest town in Lancashire in terms of population is Preston. Other main towns are: Blackburn; Darwen; Blackpool; Accrington; Burnley; Chorley; Colne; Fleetwood; Lancaster; Leyland; Lytham St. Anne’s; Morecambe; Nelson; Ormskirk; Rawtenstall; Skelmersdale and Tornton.
